On Wednesday, June 10th from 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. In Seagull Square at Salisbury University MCEA held a lunchtime event for all of the eligible bargaining unit non-exempt employees.  The event was a great success and enjoyed by all in attendance.

Joining the event were, Jack Nelson, Executive Director, Karen Coulbourne, MCEA Staff, Linda Day, MCEA President, and Debra Truitt, Chapter 72 President and Dale Maddox, Chapter 72 Vice President. 

Also, in attendance were Marty Guinane, Chuck Morrell and Virginia Kovaleski from AFT.

The Maryland Classified Employee Association held their annual convention in Ocean City, MD on October 13-15, 2014. This year's theme was "Reclaiming the Promise of Quality Public Services for Strong Communities."

President Linda Day oversaw the convention and will continue to serve as that union's leader. Speakers included AFT Secretary-Treasurer Lorretta Johnson, AFT- Maryland President Marietta English, AFL-CIO MD/DC President Fred Mason among others. Speakers emphasized the need to turn out to vote and to vote specifically for candidates that would support state workers.

Linda Day Reelected MCEA President

Linda Day, president of the Maryland Classified Employees Association (MCEA), was reelected to that position October 15 during the association’s Annual Convention in Ocean City, Maryland. Day is the only president to be elected to a consecutive second term in the 77 year history of the association. The convention, held October 14-16, featured gubernatorial candidate Anthony Brown as keynote speaker. MCEA attended the annual Maryland Maryland Association of Counties Summer Conference held at the Rolland E. Powell Convention Center on August 14-17, 2013. MCEA has attended this event for many years. It gives MCEA the opportunity to exchange ideals with important Heads of counties from Maryland concerning benefits and challenges of State and County employees.

The US Department of Labor, in cooperation with the Social Security Adminstration and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid launched an online Retirement Toolkit to assist in planning for retirement.  You can find information about when you are elligible for Social Security (benefits of delaying payments), 401K plans (penalties for early withdrawals), and health and prescription benefits (through private insurance and Medicare).  There are also retirement calculators which can be used to determine future expenses and savings needed to achieve financial stability in retirement.
