Citing state law, and despite please from students and community members, the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education voted to pull the charters of two struggling New Orleans charter schools and one in Baton Rouge.
The Louisiana Federation of Teachers mourns the passing of Elsie Burkhalter, who founded the St. Tammany Federation of Teachers and School Employees and served as Vice President of both the LFT and the American Federation of Teachers.

APSUE is doing great work in the community. Just recently APSUE made a financial contribution to the Henry Johnson Memorial Fund. Henry Johnson was an "esteemed war hero" that was not given the honor during his lifetime due to the racial climate in the United States, at the time of his service. To honor his life and legacy June 5th will be designated as Sergeant Henry Johnson day.
