On May 18, 2016, MCEA attended the annual Employee Appreciation Day in Carroll County. The event paid tribute to the Carroll County Government employees who, through their labor and dedication, keep the County moving, 24/7. MCEA has a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Carroll County Government which provides MCEA the right to represent the employees in  matters of workplace issues and disciplinary actions and to meet annually with the County Commissioners.

On May 9, 2016 MCEA President, Linda Day, Michael Brown, Legislative Chair, and Labor Relations Specialist, Michael Keeney met with Lt. Governor, Boyd K. Rutherford. Ms. Day expressed her concerns of bullying in the workplace which has become incredibly prevalent throughout State Agencies. She emphasized that this unwanted demeaning behavior has led to high levels of stress and anxiety, serious illnesses and job abandonment of our union members. She urged the Lt. MCEA members were in Annapolis on March 15th to testify in support of Senate Bill 689, for a Task Force on Workplace Bullying in State Agencies.

Labor was out in full force at Lawyers Mall in Annapolis as the AFL-CIO held their annual legislative rally on Monday, March 21st, to promote and advance issues important to organized labor. There was a wide range of support from a cross section of labor unions. Electricians, steamfitters and plumbers, government employees, teachers, and health care professionals were among the many who were in attendance.

On Friday, January 22, 2016 Baltimore City experienced an unprecedented snow storm. Tamia Drayton, Office Service Clerk, employed by the Department of Assessments and Taxations (SDAT) braved the storm and reported to work. The Department of Budget and Management in anticipation of the storm issued a notice allowing the use of Administrative Leave from 1:00 P.M. until the close of their shift for non-essential employees.
