2017 MCEA Convention

The Maryland Classified Employees Association held their 82nd Annual Convention in Ocean City, MD during the second week of October. The convention featured notable state labor and political leaders as well as the important work of charting the course forward for MCEA. Elections were held at the convention and President Linda Day was once again re-elected. A new board of directors were selected as well and every officer left the convention intent on making a true commitment to direct MCEA to a brighter more prosperous path.

Among the featured speakers at the convention were AFT Secretary-Treasurer Dr. Lorretta Johnson and pastor of Union Baptist Church,  Rev. Dr. Alvin Hathaway. Both speakers energized the crowd and gave members marching orders for pressing forward. The convention was not all just meeting, business, and speeches however. The President’s Reception featured karaoke stylings that showcased the musical talents of MCEA members and staff alike. The culminating social event of the convention is the annual dinner. In addition to the great food and fellowship, this year’s dinner featured the comedian “Grandma G” whose hilarious routine entertained the entire audience.
