In memoriam: Dr. Bill Anderson

It is with deep regret that we must inform you that our dear member, Dr. Bill Anderson, has passed away. Dr. Anderson was truly a remarkable man. Dr. Anderson was one of the first African Americans to attend the Peabody Conservatory in the 1950s. He was an accomplished musician who played with such renowned entertainers such as Ray Charles, James Brown, Little Richard, Fats Domino, the Temptations, Jackie Wilson, and gospel artist Jeff Majors. He is best known for his talent as a saxophone player, but played a variety of musical instruments.

Moreover, Dr. Anderson was the epitome of caring and compassion who worked for the Maryland State Department of Education as Chief Compliance Officer, where he made sure that the school system acted in accordance with the Civil Rights Act and the Americans With Disabilities Act. Dr. Anderson was an advocate for people with disabilities for over 40 years, and also taught  graduate level psychology classes.

Dr. Anderson loved helping people. It was for that reason that he began a program through MCEA to address the needs of the disabled and the retirees where he served as Liaison for MCEA's Retirees and Disability Affairs. We were truly blessed to have had Dr. Anderson in our lives. Rest in peace dear friend and colleague.
