The Maryland Classified Employees Association is pleased to announce that contract negotiations with Harford County Government have been successfully ratified by the parties. The new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) became effective on July 1, 2018 and will remain in effect until June 30, 2019.

MCEA effectively negotiated a $2,000 across the board increase in addition to a two percent increase for all eligible employees. The County will continue to pay up to ninety percent of employees health care premium benefits.

State retirees want answers, but the details from state officials seem sparse. That’s why MCEA convened a meeting among state retirees, legislators, and AFT-Maryland. President Linda Day oversaw a meeting where retirees brought their confusions and demands for clarity to the forefront. Many in attendance, including President Day expressed frustration at state officials for poor communication around a plan to change the way the state retirees prescriptions are covered from a state plan to a federal plan. It is with deep regret that we must inform you that our dear member, Dr. Bill Anderson, has passed away. Dr. Anderson was truly a remarkable man. Dr. Anderson was one of the first African Americans to attend the Peabody Conservatory in the 1950s. He was an accomplished musician who played with such renowned entertainers such as Ray Charles, James Brown, Little Richard, Fats Domino, the Temptations, Jackie Wilson, and gospel artist Jeff Majors. He is best known for his talent as a saxophone player, but played a variety of musical instruments.
