In accordance with the current times, MCEA was unable to gather in person for this year’s annual convention. However, that does not mean that work wasn’t completed. The union convened virtually for the 2020 annual convention and continued the business of the organization. There were several vital presentations from a host of people and organizations. Among the most important ones were a presentation by R.K. Tongue the union’s insurance providers. We are all still reeling from the impact of Hurricane Laura. The devastation that storm brought has impacted each and every one of us. The property damage is truly disheartening, and our hearts and prayers go out to all who suffered loss because of the devastation Laura brought to southwest Louisiana. As we work to rebuild our community it is more important than ever for us to come together. We know firsthand how powerful we can be when we support one another through hard times.

COVID-19 has created concern for all Maryland residents, but MPEC members have a specific concern as their work potentially increases their exposure to the virus. Staff and leadership of the union organized a tele-townhall to help members understand workplace safety and job liability in the unfortunate event they test positive for the virus.
