Passing of MCEA Member Whitt Nottingham
It is with a heavy heart and saddened spirit that I share with you the passing of Whitt Nottingham, husband of Laura Nottingham and associate member of MCEA Chapter 75. Whitt passed away on June 16, 2020 at home surrounded by his family. He was 69 years old. Whitt has been ill for some time, receiving care from hospitals and rehabilitation centers but spent the majority of his time at home under the care of Laura and her daughter Laurelle with the support of home health nurses. We will miss him greatly. I know you will keep Laura and her whole family in prayer.
Funeral services have been entrusted to March Funeral Home. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, the services will be televised by Zoom. I hope you all stay well, and be safe.
Linda Day,
MCEA President

AFT-Maryland at Workers First Caravan
The challenges of COVID-19 have altered a number of normal routines and activities. The need to alter isn’t the same as canceling however, and unions have demonstrated that better than perhaps anyone. Ordinarily, if there was important legislation that affected union households, union activists would flood Capitol Hill to agitate for their issues. The mandates for social distancing created by the ongoing global pandemic meant that labor had to be creative in how they lobbied; and creative labor was with a mass worker caravan circling through downtown Washington, DC and the U.S. Capitol complex.
Fund State & Local Government

Without federal assistance there will be layoffs and massive cuts in critical services! The Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions - HEROES Act, H.R. 6800 would bring aid to Maryland that would support our state agencies and save state jobs.
Key Funding Components of the HEROES Act
$500 billion for state aid and $350 billion for local aid
