2019 WiARA Conference & Newsletter
Several AFT-Wisconsin retirees attended the 2019 Wi Association for Retired Americans Annual Conference at the Labor Temple in Madison. Officers were elected. A change to the bylaws was proposed and tabled. For more information, see the newsletter.
Autism Service Providers Vote to Unionize First Center in Oregon
Behavior technicians and administrative staff working for large autism services provider organize the first union of its kind at a center in East Portland.
Overcoming weeks of anti-union scare tactics, a group of 30 workers at the East Portland Center for Autism and Related Disorders voted decisively on Thursday, May 23 to form a union with OFNHP!
The Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD), with sixteen locations in Oregon and over 230 nationwide claims to be the largest provider of autism services in the world. Workers at the East Portland location are breaking new ground with their successful union election. CARD Portland-East is the first center to unionize to improve working conditions and address their alarming turnover rate.
HTA Teacher Protest
The HTA worked tirelessly until 11pm on Wednesday to try to reach a settlement. There was no movement.

(Deadline: Postmarked by May 31, 2020)
AFT-NH is proud to award two $1,000 scholarships for the 2020-21 academic year. The Cascio scholarship will be offered to one graduating senior who has been accepted at an institution of higher learning, while the Donovan scholarship will go to one continuing student at an accredited institution of higher learning for the 2020-2021 academic year. Prior scholarship winners are ineligible.
Applicant’s parent or guardian must be a current member of AFT-NH. Winners will need to provide proof of enrollment (continuing or as a new student) for the 2020-2021 academic year in order to receive their scholarship check. All applications must be postmarked by May31, 2020.
