Walk for Sickle Cell Awareness and Research

Summer is a busy time for the locals of AFT-Maryland. Beyond their duties as members and officers of public sector labor unions, many volunteer in the community for a number of worthwhile causes. The 2018 Maryland Walk With the Stars & Move-a-thon for sickle cell awareness and research was one of those causes AFT-Maryland showed up for.

T.A. Ratified

The Tentative Agreement between CUB and Baltimore City Public Schools System was ratified unanimously on August 14th. The next step is for the agreement to be approved by the Board of School Commissioners. Stay tuned! 

MCEA members meet over prescription drug plan changes

Members of the Maryland Classified Employees Association held a rally at their Woodlawn headquarters requesting lawmakers call a special session to [reconsider moving the retiree’s prescription drug plan to the Medicare Part D program next year.] Union leadership said the switch is going to be cost-prohibitive for many retirees living on fixed incomes.

Fighting for Member Safety on the Job

City Union of Baltimore President Antoinette Ryan-Johnson met with Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby to discuss protections for members of the City Union of Baltimore. The issue at hand in this meeting was protection for Traffic Enforcement Officers (TEOs) and crossing guards.

We've been asked for resources to help prepare for PRAXIS, the test that prospective teachers must pass in order to be certified.

ETS, the company that administers PRAXIS, has produced a series of Webinars to help prospective teachers ensure success on the exam.  Each live session provides attendees with the opportunity to interact and ask questions.
