MCEA 2014 Annual Convention

The Maryland Classified Employee Association held their annual convention in Ocean City, MD on October 13-15, 2014. This year's theme was "Reclaiming the Promise of Quality Public Services for Strong Communities."

President Linda Day oversaw the convention and will continue to serve as that union's leader. Speakers included AFT Secretary-Treasurer Lorretta Johnson, AFT- Maryland President Marietta English, AFL-CIO MD/DC President Fred Mason among others. Speakers emphasized the need to turn out to vote and to vote specifically for candidates that would support state workers.

Speakers included Dr. Lorretta Johnson, Secretary-Treasurer of the AFT, Marietta English, President of AFT-Maryland and the BTU, Steve Porter, Director AFT Public Employees, Sen. James Mathias, District 38, Fred Mason, President MD/DC AFL-CIO, Ernest Grecco, President Metro Baltimore AFL-CIO, Joslyn Williams, President Metro Washington AFL-CIO, Delegate Norman Conway, District 38B, and Donna Edwards, Secretary-Treasurer MD/DC AFL-CIO.

During the convention, members handled a good deal of business but also enjoyed themselves at dinners and receptions. There was a great deal of fellowship during the down-time away from doing the business of the union, and members were able to raffle off prizes to raise money for their various areas.
