Baltimore County Public Employees had an opportunity to meet and greet the leadership of the two local unions affiliated with AFT-Maryland, which represent them. Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) and the Baltimore County Federation of Public Health Nurses (BCFPHN) executive boards welcomed and engaged members at the Drumcastle Center in Towson, MD.

Members had an opportunity to express both appreciation and concerns to their unions. Some asked about tuition reimbursement opportunities in the contract as well as work conditions and requirements made of them by the county.

On May 9, 2016 MCEA President, Linda Day, Michael Brown, Legislative Chair, and Labor Relations Specialist, Michael Keeney met with Lt. Governor, Boyd K. Rutherford. Ms. Day expressed her concerns of bullying in the workplace which has become incredibly prevalent throughout State Agencies. Citizens across Maryland took to the polls on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 to elect new leaders for everything from President of the United States to local judges. Members of AFT-Maryland, and supporters of candidates across Baltimore City and Baltimore County volunteered their efforts and time to back union endorsed candidates.

Labor was out in full force at Lawyers Mall in Annapolis as the AFL-CIO held their annual legislative rally on Monday, March 21st, to promote and advance issues important to organized labor. There was a wide range of support from a cross section of labor unions. Electricians, steamfitters and plumbers, government employees, teachers, and health care professionals were among the many who were in attendance.

On Friday, January 22, 2016 Baltimore City experienced an unprecedented snow storm. Tamia Drayton, Office Service Clerk, employed by the Department of Assessments and Taxations (SDAT) braved the storm and reported to work. The Department of Budget and Management in anticipation of the storm issued a notice allowing the use of Administrative Leave from 1:00 P.M. until the close of their shift for non-essential employees. This is to morn our sorrow of a very strong member of MCEA Chapter 45, who is no longer with us.. From Chapter 45 - the Chapter that Rocks!

We love you and mourn the loss of a great sister and member of MCEA. These words are but a few from Chapter 45. Phyliss was a fighter who believed in fighting for what was right and the protection of all state employees. She made every chapter meeting, and never missed MCEA Statewide or MCEA conventions. These words are from your sisters and brothers of Chapter 45.
